ATTENTION HOTMAIL USERS !!

Dear Members,
If you are registered to the GAA mailing list with either a Hotmail or MSN email address it may be very likely that you have not been receiving email from us recently, we have investigated and identified the problem:

In a very aggressive move to block SPAMmers and junk mail, hotmail/msn in their wisdom have decided that they know best what email you should or should not receive and have blocked many genuine emails to you, the email will not even show up in your 'JUNK' folder as hotmail/msn filters has decided not to even deliver the email to you for you to decide if it is junk or not.

This message has been posted as an advisory, and we are unable to do anything about the hotmail/msn policy so cannot guarantee that you will receive any email sent by us in the future.

To continue receiving email news and event notification from us, we would advise that you re-register with an alternate email address.

Click here to re -register with a NON Hotmail or MSN email address

We apologise if this has caused you any inconvenience but there is very little we can do about it.

Please do come along as the evening will be a great chance to meet other friends and fellow community members, as well as enjoy a nice drink (or two) at the social bar.

Please may we draw your attention to the fact that as we anticipate a large turnout for this event, we will be adopting a strict parking control system and would kindly ask that you park sensibly.

Finally, we would also like to advise you that due to a very busy schedule at our hall, we have had to take the decision of not having a ‘Diwali Dinner & Dance’ function. Hopefully you can appreciate that this was done to allow for an external booking of the hall, but nevertheless, we would like to apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused you.

Please tell everyone you know as we will not be sending a circular

Kind regards,

Pool/Snooker Tournament

Dear Members,
Your Association is pleased to announce that the Mahasabha has organised a the 12th Annual Pool/Snooker Tournament on Sunday 9th December, 2007 at the ‘Club 147’, Careys Lane, Leicester (opposite the Holiday inn hotel).

As in previous years, the emphasis will be on winning the frame and not on points. Each team will have 5 players and the top 2 teams in each group will qualify to the next round and the losing team would be entered into the ‘plate competition’.

The rules specify that all players must be ‘Mochi’, or qualified as such by marriage. If a non-Mochi player is entered then the entire team will be disqualified without question. All players must be aged 18 and under (i.e. those that have not had their 19th birthday can play). The price for entering a team is £50 for snooker and £22.50 for pool.

As completed application forms and full payments must be with the Mahasabha Sports Secretary by the 28th November, all those wishing to participate (whether as teams or individuals) should contact the GAAL Secretary in the first instance.

We hope that those people who have not been able to make it on Tuesday evenings will do so in these new Sunday classes.

    HYDRO-ACTIVE 5KM FUN RUN

    FOR WOMEN OF ALL AGES
Fund Raising Help from our Community Members

    Dear Ladies (sorry Gents)
With more and more members taking part and helping our community, we are proud that some members have voluntarily put their efforts into organising events in aid of fundraising for our hall, one such couple are Shashi and Hasu Chauhan who wrote to us in an effort to help us raise funds.

As we all know, it is a crucial time for us to help raise funds for our Hall. It is in our best interest, as a community, and for our future generations, to try and HELP and come with a positive approach and commitment, in raising funds.

    We are trying to introduce:
HYDRO-ACTIVE 5KM FUN RUN FOR WOMEN OF ALL AGES.
    It will be held on
Sunday the 16th of SEPTEMBER 2007 IN HYDE PARK.

Therefore, we are looking for women participants (10 years onwards, who are capable of walking, running, or chitchatting and walking). It is a very easy fun loving walk, even for older fit women. This way you can not only just help our community to raise funds, but it is one way of keeping fit too. You can also give inspiration to our young girls, by involving them in this fun run to help our community, and it's an achievement for them too.

We will really appreciate, for all our women to come forward and take an active part, and help us to raise funds, which we are desperately in need of.

So let's work as a TEAM and take our community FORWARD.

    Shashi & Hasu Chauhan

    Navratri Festival 2006

    Dear Community Members,
It is with great regret and sadness that we must inform you that we are unable to hold the Navratri Festival at our hall this year.

The reason for this is as follows: From about June of this year, certain local residents had made some complaints/allegations against the use of our Hall, this in turn prompted Brent Council to serve us with a planning order notice. This planning order notice meant that we were unable to have any kind of public gathering at our hall unless ALL of the planning conditions were met. These planning conditions included putting up signs, installing bicycle parking stands and creating something called a Green Travel Plan etc.

Everyone within the Executive Committee, Board of Trustees and Building Project Committee have been working extremely hard through out the Summer season in order to try and meet all of the conditions that were imposed by Brent Council, especially in time for the forthcoming Festivals. We therefore felt, that we had (to our knowledge) complied with all of the necessary conditions and felt quite confident of the out come when we had asked for special permission to hold this auspicious festival. However, Brent Council have advised us that they are unable to give this permission until they have discharged the notice, which they have not done as yet.

As you can appreciate, GAAL are extremely unhappy with the way that we have been treated as well as to the decision made by this department of Brent Council. We therefore implore all of our Community Members that live in the Brent area to make a formal complaint to your local Councillor.

Once again, we would like to apologise whole heartedly to you for bringing this sad news on the eve of the Festival, but hopefully you are able to understand that we were quite hopeful that we would be allowed to hold this festival at our hall.

If you would like any further information with regards to this issue or you are able to help in any way please contact us.

Please tell everyone you know, as we will not be sending a circular.

    Cricket

    Dear Community Members,
We are trying to get organised for cricket this year and are planning to start nets next week.

We have a nets booked at 2-3 at Northwick Park on Sundays where we used to have football. We do need to know who can and can’t make it to make sure we have enough numbers. There will be other people there from another team I play with so it will only be around £3 each for the session

We do need more players especially batsmen. Can you call any other Mochi’s you know and ask them if they can come to these practice sessions? Please forward them this mail and get them to mail me back so we have their e-mail address so we can add them to the group list. If anyone knows people from the old team who would come along, even if just to nets to at least help out with some coaching, please get in touch with them.

Please contact Ricky on 07970 831 691 if you are interested in playing and/or coming to nets

    Building Project Update

Last summer, we sent out a brief to the entire community, outlining the difficulties that GAA London had faced with regards to trying to safeguard better terms than were previously prescribed by Brent Council. These lengthy negotiations meant that nearly two years had passed since GAA London had put its bid forward to acquire the property. We concluded in that previous brief that we would soon be in a position to exchange contracts, the great news is that on the 10th October 2002, GAA London exchanged contracts with Brent Council and has paid a £50,000 deposit.

    General News

We hope that you have had a good break over the festive season and would like to wish you a prosperous New Year for 2003.

Hopefully you are all aware that in our last Biennial General Meeting (held on 22nd September 2002) the GAA London Sports & Social Club (GAALS&SC) came under the direct control of our association (GAA London). From now on GAALS&SC will now be known as the Gujarati Arya Association London - Sports & Entertainment (GAAL-SE). GAAL-SE, apart from having its own entire sub-committee, the Sports Secretary, who is Bhavik Chauhan and the Cultural Secretary, who is Anoop Chavda, report directly to two Liaison Officers within the GAA London Committee. The Sports Liaison Officer is Shailesh Solanki and the Cultural Liaison Officer is Kavita Chauhan.

'The Pendu', being the official magazine of GAAL-SE, is being published on a quarterly basis and is currently being funded by GAA London. GAAL-SE has very good plans for all aspects of sports and keep-fit as well as organising cultural and entertainments activities.

Please give GAAL-SE all of your support, remembering they represent the future of our Youth.
